Burma, also known as Myanmar is a sovereign state in Southeast Asia. It is bordered by India, Bangladesh, China, Laos and Thailand. This is why Burmese culture has been influenced by its neighbours India, Thailand and China. The culture of Burma has also been heavily influenced by Buddhism and the Mon people. In more recent times, British colonial rule and westernisation have influenced aspects of Burmese culture, including language and education.
